My City Centre Masdar in Abu Dhabi

New Dhs300m mall set to launch in the heart of Masdar City

A brand new multi-million Dirham mega mall is set to swing open its doors in the capital next year.

Shoppers in Abu Dhabi will be bracing themselves for an extra round of retail therapy after plans for a Dhs300 million mall in the heart of Masdar City were given the green light.

The My City Centre Masdar mall – which is being constructed by the Majid Al Futtaim group – will boast 60 outlets across a vast 18,000 square metres of shopping space, including a Magic Planet family entertainment centre, a huge 5,760-square-metre Carrrefour Hypermarket, a dedicated City Centre clinic, which will provide a range of healthcare services, as well as a good selection of dining options. The one-level mall will have shaded parking for 430 vehicles on its rooftop through the use of hi-tech solar panels. The mall has been designed to consume 40 percent less energy and water than comparable buildings in line with Masdar City’s eco-friendly strategy.

The mall, which will open by the end of 2018, is just the latest stage in the ongoing development of Masdar City. Around 2,000 people currently work in the area and its residential population is set to surge to 3,500 in the next three years and rise to 40,000 by 2030, with 35 percent of the city’s planned built-up area set to be completed over the next five years.

Ghaith Shocair, who is chief executive officer of shopping malls for Majid Al Futtaim, said: “We are proud to announce the development of My City Centre Masdar, which promises to create great moments for everyone, every day, for communities living and working in Masdar City. We are honoured to partner with Masdar City and salute their vision, which is aligned with Majid Al Futtaim’s commitment to sustainability.”
