See 1000 animals and birds

Seeing the amazing animals is your main reason for visiting, right? Marvel in awe at the sheer size of the park and the amazing animals within it At around 800 hectares, the park is huge (2.5 times the size of Central Park, if you’re looking for scale). It’s also home to more than 1000 animals and birds, with 120 species represented including giraffes, gazelles, lions, elephants, flamingos, rhinos and crocodiles. Over 1000 local and African trees meanwhile provide all the necessary greenery and vegetation in order for the fauna and flora to thrive.

Take a walking tour

In order to deliver as authentic an experience as possible the park is split into 12 environments, each one specifically intended to mimic a region in Africa.
Ticket prices are also split into categories: bronze tickets are priced at Dhs40 for the over 12s (Dhs15 for children aged three to 12) and will allow you to take a two-to-three-hour walking tour of the Africa zone.

Hop on a bus tour

If walking’s not your thing, a silver ticket (Dhs120 for those over 12 and Dhs50 for visitors aged three to 12) will grant you a spot on a bus tour where over the course of five hours or so you’ll visit all zones apart from the “Serengeti”. Gold tickets meanwhile will see you touring the 12 environments in a private car, accompanied by a guide (Dhs275 for over 12s, Dhs120 for little ones between three and 12).

Say hello to Bridi the giraffe and Wuhaida the white rhino

The park has a special section just for giraffes, 15 of which were specially released into the wild and have been adapting to safari life since. The star of this particular show (and the giraffe everyone wants to see) is Bridi, the first African female giraffe to be born at Sharjah Safari (her parents arrived from South Africa five years ago).

Bridi doesn’t get all the attention, though. Wuhaida, the southern white rhino was the first of her near threatened kind to be born in Sharjah Safari as part of their breeding programme when she came into the world last August.

Enjoy a spot of birdwatching

Designated bird watching areas mean there’s plenty of opportunity for birders to get their kicks too.

Binoculars on: seek out the rarest animals in the park

Given the sheer size of the park spotting animals isn’t always going to be easy (particularly those that want to maintain a low profile), but keep your eyes peeled and you could catch a glimpse of a radiator tortoise, lesser spotted marabou stork or perhaps most excitingly of all, a rare black rhino.

Refuel and relax

Visits to the park are only set to get better and better, thanks to a large natural lake which will be surrounded by cafes and restaurants perfect for refueling after all the excitement, as well as a conference hall and visitor’s camp.

Open daily 8.30am-6.30pm. From Dhs50 for adults, Dhs20 for children. Al Bridi Nature Reserve, Sharjah epaashj.ae
