Dubai’s Burj Khalifa is among cheapest global landmarks to light up

UAE’s top tower scores well for electricity bill

Burj Khalifa is synonymous with Dubai and it’s known the world over.

Picture Dubai and it’s impossible not to see the giant tower piercing the sky and those spectacular fireworks displays every New Year’s Eve.

Have you ever looked up at the magnificent light shows and wondered how many lights are there on the Burj Khalifa?

Well, we’ve got the answer for you.

There are 1,200,000, which is a lot, but then again it’s the tallest building in the world so you’d think it would be a lot.

Despite all those bulbs, and according to research by Smart Lighting, the Burj Khalifa actually boasts an energy bill much smaller than it’s lofty peak some 830m above ground.

The tower comes in at number ten in the list of most expensive landmarks in the world to illuminate – with a lecky bill of £300,000 per year (approximately Dhs1.5m).

Dubai’s iconic tower was substantially cheaper to light up than other notable global landmarks, including the Las Vegas Strip (which took top spot with an eye-watering yearly bill of $483million, approx Dhs1.7bn), Empire State Building, Sydney Opera House, Buckingham Palace and the Eiffel Tower.

Also on the list at number eight is Ain Dubai, which costs £500,000 (approximately Dhs2.5m) to brighten.

Want to gaze out at Burj Khalifa and take in one of the world’s most amazing shows in all it’s glory? Of course you do, for the ‘Gram if nothing else.
