Love art? The NYU Abu Dhabi Art Gallery 2022 programme has been revealed.
There are two major exhibitions coming to the gallery in 2022: The first will open in the spring on Tuesday March 1, followed by Khaleej Modern later in the fall.
Wondering what you can expect to see with the NYU Abu Dhabi Art Gallery 2022 programme? The first exhibition is by three Iranian artists who live in the UAE. It explores how artwork grows through an artist’s relationships with others. It will be followed by Khaleej Modern, which is curated by Dr. Aisha Stoby and is based on is her research of the GCC in the pre-boom era. Entry to both exhibitions is free.
NYU Abu Dhabi Art Gallery re-opened to the public in November 2021 after pandemic-related restrictions. Modernisms: Iranian, Turkish, and Indian Highlights from NYU’s Abby Weed Grey Collection was the first exhibition for the reopening and you can still catch it until Saturday February 5. The gallery’s first exhibition artists, Ramin Haerizadeh, Rokni Haerizadeh and Hesam Rahmanian, are known for their immersive, surreal projects, performances, paintings, and animations, which have exhibited internationally.
This exhibition for the NYU Abu Dhabi Art Gallery 2022 programme will be their first solo exhibition in the UAE and is a testament to their 13 years in Dubai. It will run from Tuesday March 1 to Sunday June 12.
Khaleej Modern makes up the second half of the NYU Abu Dhabi Art Gallery 2022 programme, with a historical survey of the last century of modern art movements across the GCC states known as the Khaleej. Stoby is an art historian and curator who has published and lectured widely on modernism in the Global South. The dates for this exhibition are yet to be announced, so keep your eyes glued on this space.
The NYU Abu Dhabi Art Gallery is a major gallery in the region as the Gulf’s first and only university gallery with a program of scholarly and experimental museum exhibitions.
