As well as romantic cities and brilliant skiing opportunities, France is also home to some of the best food in the world.
Combining wonderful flavours and fresh ingredients with a touch of class and style, there’s something about French cooking which manages to be both sophisticated and satisfying at the same time.
Bord Eau is known to be one of the most authentic French restaurants in the capital, and now the friendly eatery at the Shangri-La Hotel Qaryat Al Beri has introduced a new menu that is bringing the tastes of Gallic home cooking to Abu Dhabi.
Called comme à la maison, or ‘just like home’, each dish on the three-course menu is designed to warm and comfort.
It’s perfect for those very occasional, not-so-warm and cloudy days in Abu Dhabi.
The chefs will change up the menu twice a month, so unless you go very, very regularly, there will always be something new to try.
Seafood fans will love kicking things off with plates such as seared scallops or fresh tuna tartare, while the sea bream with mashed cauliflower and gnocchi acts as a light and healthy main. Carnivores won’t be left wanting more either, as the meaty dishes such as beef tenderloin with seasonal vegetables are the very definition of homely.
Of course it wouldn’t be right to finish off a French meal with anything other than a platter of cheese (and a coffee), but if you have a sweet tooth there’s also a classic crème brûlée.
The menu is perfect for date night or dinner with your best friend (it includes two glasses of grape each as well), and head chef Slim Ben Chahla says the team purposefully decided to stick to classic dishes.
“The key to comfort food is to keep it simple and accessible,” he says.
“That’s why we have carefully chosen just six classic dishes, all bursting with flavours from locally sourced ingredients.”
We only wished the food we served up at our house was this consistantly delicious.
