Abu Dhabi kicks off global partnership with Man City

League outfit will be kitted out in special strip on American tour

Tourism bosses in Abu Dhabi are backing a winning team after joining forces with Premier League giants Manchester City for an ‘extraordinary’ global project.

Pep Guardiola’s title hopefuls, who will launch their quest for a third Premier League crown next month, will wear a specially commissioned shirt – bearing the words extraordinary – on their high-profile pre-season tour of the United States this month as part of a year-long campaign with Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) aimed at promoting the emirate worldwide.

The ‘Extraordinary City Story’ activity will see fans of the Sky Blues have the chance to score a host of top prizes, including tickets to the Abu Dhabi Formula One Grand Prix, tickets to a Manchester City game at the Etihad Stadium, plus the grand prize of an all-expenses paid trip to Abu Dhabi.

To be in with a chance to win, fans need only share their most ‘extraordinary’ memory of being a City fan using the hashtag #ExtraordinaryCityStory on social media.

It’s been a rollercoaster few years for the side – from languishing in the third tier of English football to an incredible last-gasp Premier League title win and a Champions League semi-final showdown with Real Madrid – so there are plenty of wonderful memories to share.

To celebrate the launch of the global competition, and to coincide with the start of Manchester City’s pre-season tour in the United States, TCA Abu Dhabi unveiled a specially commissioned shirt in the UAE capital at the luxurious Emirates Palace, also the venue for Manchester City’s mid-season training session last February.

The shirt will be worn by Sergio Aguero, Kevin de Bruyne, Vincent Kompany and the rest of City’s star-studded squad as they take on fierce rivals Manchester United, European champions Real Madrid and last year’s Premier League runners-up Tottenham Hotspur while in the USA.
