Four new movies released this weekend to UAE cinemas

Action, musical, and horror, oh my!

Grab your popcorn, nachos, and sour candies – or whatever your go-to movie snacks are. We have one of your things to do this weekend sorted.

Four brand-new movies are hitting UAE cinemas this weekend and we couldn’t be more excited. You’ll catch us snacking and catching up on all the hottest movies this weekend.

Time for a double… triple… quadruple feature.

Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard

The world’s strangest (and most lethal) pairing – bodyguard Michael Bryce (Ryan Reynolds) and hitman Darius Kincaid (Samuel L. Jackson) are back for another life-threatening mission. Bryce tells his therapist he isn’t going to be a bodyguard anymore, and he’s making peace with it until Sonia Kincaid, an infamous international con artist, finds him and asks for his help. She needs him to recover her hitman husband who has been taken by mobsters. Along the way they meet Interpol agent Bobby O’Neill, who needs their help to locate a terrorist mastermind who wants to destroy the European power grid. This movie promises to be full of thrilling action, dry wit and slapstick comedy. With a star studded cast including Salma Hayek, Frank Grillo, and Morgan Freeman, we think it’s a must-see for any action lovers, or fans of the previous two films.
Rated PG 15.

In the Heights

Singing, dancing, storytelling and more. This musical drama film is based on the stage musical of the same name by Quiara Alegría Hudes and Lin-Manuel Miranda: the creator of Hamilton. It is directed by Jon M. Chu, the director of Crazy Rich Asians, inviting you into a world where the streets are made of music and little dreams become big. In the Heights opens in Washington Heights, where a tight-knit community rallies around a magnetic bodega owner, Usnavi, who saves every penny and grinds to make a better life. If you love musicals, you definitely don’t want to miss this one. The movie stars Anthony Ramos, Corey Hawkins, Leslie Grace and Melissa Barrera. With music by Miranda, Alex Lacamoire and Bill Sherman, this show is sure to have plenty of earworms.
Rated 18+.

Flashback

If you’re a fan of a psychological thriller with twists and turns and jumps through time, you should check out Flashback this weekend. In the film, Fredrick Fitzell is happy with his life, until he starts having horrific visions of Cindy, a girl who vanished in high school. He reaches out to old friends, who used to take a mystery substance called Mercury with him in the past. Fredrick realizes the only way to stop the visions is to remember what happened, so he goes deep into his own mind to find the truth. The film stars Dylan O’Brien and Maika Monroe, and was written and directed by Christopher MacBride. We’re ready for a good psychological scare, are you?
Rated 18+.

The Power

Are you afraid of the dark? We had a hard time sitting through the trailer for this one, so if you’re easily scared you might want to skip it. In this movie, Val, a young nurse on her first day of duty is forced to work the night shift. With miners striking across the city, most of the patients and staff are evacuated to another hospital across town while the power goes out. But Val has to wait in a building enveloped by sinister darkness – someone, or something, is out there. Written and directed by Corinna Faith, the film stars Rose Williams, Mark Smith and Marley Chesham. You might have to hold back a scream.
Rated 18+.
