American Traitor: The Trial of Axis Sally

Looking for a historical film that’s based on a true story? American Traitor: The Trial of Axis Sally follows the life of Mildred Gillars (played by Meadow Williams), an American woman who is forced to broadcast Nazi propaganda to American troops during World War Two. Her lawyer, James Laughlin, played by Al Pacino, attempts to redeem her reputation when she is brought to trial. The film was directed by Michael Polish and releases Thursday July 22.


Animal Crackers

Colourful characters, snacks that come to life, and lively musical numbers? Sounds like the ideal summer kids’ film. When a beloved run-down circus is in jeopardy, one family uses a box of magical Animal Crackers to save it from their evil uncle Horatio P. Huntington. The film was created in 2017 and was set to be released internationally on multiple dates from distributors who faced financial difficulties. Finally it was released on Netflix in July 2020, and is coming to the big screen in the UAE on Thursday July 22.


Insight

If you love an action movie that blends martial arts with themes of justice, this might be the film for you. Jian is a counter-terrorism agent who uses his skills as a martial artist to bring criminals to justice. He is forced to make an unexpected detour to Los Angeles when he finds out about a cover-up surrounding his brother’s death. The movie was directed by Livi Zheng and releases on Thursday July 22.


Lansky

It’s time for a crime drama. Famous criminal, Meyer Lansky, is investigated one last time by the Feds who suspect he’s stashed away millions of dollars over the course of his career as a gangster. He spins them a dizzying tale, revealing the untold truth about his life as the boss of the notorious Murder Inc. and the National Crime Syndicate. Why does he decide to tell them this story? Is it true? We’ll have to watch to find out. The film was written and directed by Eytan Rockaway and releases on Thursday July 22.


Norm of the North: Family Vacation

Another kids’ film is out this weekend: it’s a new Norm of the North movie. In the next installment of this film franchise, Norm is overwhelmed by his kingly duties and his crown is stolen. Norm needs to take a journey to find his crown while also repairing his family’s relationship. This icy movie is sure to keep the kiddos cool this weekend. It releases on Thursday July 22.


Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins.

Henry Golding aka “Snake Eyes” is a loner who is welcomed into a Japanese clan when he saves the life of their heir. When he arrives in Japan, the Arashikage teach him how to be a ninja warrior while providing him with the home he’s always been longing for. But when his past is revealed, Snake Eyes’ honour will be tested and he’ll have to choose who he should be faithful to. The film is based on the iconic G.I. Joe character, Snake Eyes, and was directed by Robert Schwentke. It releases on Thursday July 22.


Vanquish

Starring Morgan Freeman and Ruby Rose, this non-stop action flick is about a woman named Victoria whose daughter is kidnapped by a retired police commissioner who blackmails her into double-crossing his former team of dirty cops. Victoria is forced to fight her way through an ugly underground world over the course of one night to save her daughter from the only man she ever trusted. She is confronted by her past as a Russia drug courier in a thriller that reveals the extent of love a parent has for her child. The film releases Thursday July 22.
