Dhs3,000 fines for drivers blocking emergency services in Abu Dhabi

Reminder that motorists must give-way or be penalised

Drivers in Abu Dhabi have been warned against obstructing emergency vehicles on the road.

The Ministry of Interior (MOI) posted a statement on its social media reminding motorists in the capital to give way to emergency vehicles safely and quickly.

Failure to do so previously resulted in a fine of Dhs1,000 and six black points on the drivers’ license.

However, from July 1, 2019 the fine will be Dhs3,000 and your car will be confiscated for 30 days.

A new campaign will help to educate drivers about why they should give way if a police car, ambulence or fire engine is trying to get past.

New  ‘civic patrols’ will be dispatched to catch motorists obstructing the movement of emergency vehicles and official vehicles.

Giving way to emergency vehicles can save lives and also increases the response time for these services to reach incidents throughout the city.

Abu Dhabi Police also announced recently that a Dhs1,000 fine will also be given to drivers who litter on roads in the capital.

Both campaigns aim to improve public safety and improve the appearance of the UAE to residents and international visitors.

It’s not difficult, is it?
