The next public holiday in the UAE will be in September

A three-day weekend is expected at the start of the month

Most of us have enjoyed some time off to honour Eid al-Adha but you won’t have to wait long until the next public holiday in the UAE.

The likely date for Islamic New Year, also known as the Hijri New Year, is expected to fall on September 1.

Once confirmed, workers in the public and private sectors will be set for a three day weekend to mark the first day of the Hijri New Year.

The Arab Union for Space and Astronomy Sciences says Sunday September 1 is the likely date for the important holiday after sighting the moon.

The date will be confirmed in the coming days and a public holiday will be announced.

Back in March, we brought you the news of the UAE Cabinet announcing that in 2019 and 2020 the public and private sectors would get the same holidays.

Planning ahead for the rest of the year?

Here’s a provisional list of the country’s remaining public holidays for 2019 so you know what to look out for.

Sunday December 1: UAE Commemoration Day
Monday December 2-Tuesday December 3: UAE National Day
