Abu Dhabi road tolls are now live at four locations across the city.
Drivers who have not yet registered or are facing issues signing up are still able to drive their vehicles in the emirate without facing fines.
The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) and Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) have announced a three-month grace period for unregistered vehicles.
Drivers passing through the toll system will not face charges even if they are not registered.
All drivers passing through toll gates after this grace period ends are expected to be registered and have credit on their accounts.
All vehicles passing through toll gates during peak hours (that’s 7am to 9am and 5pm to 7pm Saturday to Thursday) must be registered or will face fines.
Passing through a toll gate with an unregistered vehicle means you have ten days before you’ll get a Dhs100 on the 11th day, Dhs200 on the 12th and Dhs400 on the 13th, with fines rising to a maximum of Dhs10,000.
Passing through a toll gate with insufficient balance will result in a fine of Dhs50.
Drivers who tamper with their license plate in order to evade the toll will also be fined Dhs10,000.
Emiratis over 60, people of determination, limited-income Emiratis and Emirati retirees will be exempted from toll charges, as well as licensed taxis in Abu Dhabi, tow trucks, public buses and school buses.
