UAE announces Eid al-Fitr 2020 dates for Abu Dhabi

It looks like being a long weekend in the capital for pubic sector workers

Public sector employees in Abu Dhabi are set for a long weekend after Eid al-Fitr holidays were announced by the UAE’s Federal Authority for Government Human Resources.

The announcement, which was made through state news agency WAM, says the Eid holiday will start on Friday May 22 (which is Ramadan 29) and will run until Shawwal 3 in the Islamic calendar.

That means Eid will last until Tuesday May 26 or Wednesday May 27, depending on whether Ramadan is 29 or 30 days this year.

The exact dates will be confirmed nearer to the time by the moon-sighting committee, who will meet on the night before the 30th day of Ramadan to look for the crescent moon that signifies the start of the new month.

Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, a month of fasting for Muslims.
