Spinney’s launches incubator for home-grown business in the UAE

The launch is part of the supermarket’s corporate sustainability initiative

UAE supermarket Spinney’s has announced the launch of its incubator programme supporting micro food and beverage suppliers in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and the rest of the UAE.

The programme is part of a wider corporate sustainability initiative by the supermarket titled ‘Let’s Do Better Together’ and aims to fast-track supermarket listings for innovative food and beverage businesses in a bid to support local food production and stimulate economic growth in the sector.

Spinney’s incubator programme is the first of its kind in the region and has been designed to fall in line with the UAE’s National Food Security Strategy. The idea is to grow as much local food production as possible in order to move away from dependence on imported food supplies.

The programme will also lower barriers to supermarket entry and help make the often challenging path to shelf listings easier for smaller food producers and manufacturers in the Emirates.

Explaining the initiative, Tom Harvey, Commercial Manager at Spinneys said: “This incubator programme underscores our commitment to support made-in-the-UAE food and beverage companies in an effort to enhance the food security system, but also to help drive job creation and economic growth. It’s an opportunity to show our customers and our community how we actively invest in them. We have walked the entrepreneurial road, and built a legacy. Spinneys is an integral part of the UAE community and supporting our community is at the core of our values.”
