New update to the Dubai-Abu Dhabi border rules

You need a negative COVID-19 test or book a border screening in advance

The Abu Dhabi government has announced a further update to the the rules for crossing the border into the capital.

Since June 2 there have been restrictions in place for getting into the emirate, with the most recent one being a laser-screening service available at the border.

That system was put in place on Tuesday July 14 but from today (Thursday July 16), that process has changed.

In a tweet from the official Abu Dhabi Media Office, The Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Committee said the border screening can only be used if you book an appointment in advance.

You can book the appointment for a test here.

If you have an appointment and pass the screening test when you get to the border you will be allowed into Abu Dhabi.

Those who do not pass the test will have to return to Dubai and have a full swab-style PCR test and return to the border within 48 hours of getting a negative result.

Anyone who already has a negative PCR result does not need to book a screening test at the border and will be allowed through to Abu Dhabi upon showing the test result.
