First look at Abu Dhabi’s new fish market at Mina Zayed redevelopment

Here’s what to expect when the major works are complete

Major redevelopments have been announced at Mina Zayed in Abu Dhabi.

The old port and surrounding area is set for redevelopment to transform the area into a new tourist, commercial and residential destination.

As part of plans, unused and out of use stores and outlets have been demolished and a brand new fish market has been designed and is already being built.

Now, more details have been shared by The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) and developers Modon Properties.

A complete overhaul of the areas souks and markets are a key component of the regeneration of the area as well as the construction of a new seasonal market.

Once complete a new fish market, plant souk, fruit and vegetable market, meat market, carpet souk, date souk and a wholesale souk will open to the public.

Central to the area will be the new fish market which has been a popular destination for shoppers for more than three decades.

The new fish market located at the Fisherman’s Wharf will make the market even more appealing to new shopping whole welcoming back loyal customer who have bought fresh seafood from the destination for decades.

The old fish market and fruit markets will be preserved and repurposed as part of the redevelopment.

“We are very proud to embark upon this new milestone for the redevelopment of Meena Zayed,” said Hamad Al-Mutawa, executive director of Operations Affairs at the Department of Municipalities and Transport.

“We look forward to advancing our plans in revitalising the historic area.
