Fortnightly COVID-19 tests announced for Abu Dhabi employees

Move largely affects service sectors, with employers to cover testing costs

Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED) has announced new safety measures for thousands of employees in the emirate.

ADDED has issued a circular to a range of business including restaurants and cafés, supermarkets, bakeries, butchers, fruit and vegetable retailers, mall and commercial centre employees.

From January 10, 2021, employees working in the sectors outlined above will be required to get tested for COVID-19 every two weeks.

In addition, employers are required to cover the costs of testing.

The directions are “in line with the COVID-19 preventive measures in Abu Dhabi and aim to create a safe and healthy environment while limiting the effects of the pandemic”.

All individuals who have been vaccinated are exempt from testing, which is available for free at vaccination centres across the emirate.
