Al Wathba Wetland Reserve in Abu Dhabi has reopened to the public

Want to explore the stunning attraction?

Al Wathba Wetland Reserve has reopened to the public.

The stunning wetlands had been closed since March last year to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

Now, Al Wathba Wetland Reserve will remain open to the public until April 30, 2021.

The free-to-visit attraction will open from Tuesdays to Saturdays from 8am to 6pm.

A number of safety measures are in place to protect visitors including the wearing of masks, strict social distancing and all visitors must show a negative COVID-19 test result from the past month.

Children under the age of 12 are exempt from having to show a test result.

Al Wahba Wetland Reserve was one of the first natural reserves to be established in Abu Dhabi and was officially declared a protected are in 1998 by the founding father of the UAE Sheikh Zayed.

The area is an ideal habitat for as many as 260 specie of migratory birds including the greater flamingo as well as 260 invertebrates, 11 mammals, ten reptiles and 35 plant species.

Al Wathba Wetland Reserve is the only site in the Arabian Gulf where flamingos have been regularly breeding since 2011.

The reserve was officially recognised as a Ramsar site, deemed of international importance under the Ramsar Convention established by UNESCO, in 2013.
