UAE landmarks light up red to celebrate the Hope Probe’s descent to Mars

The UAE’s achievements are out of this world this week

Mars, the red planet, the giant marble in the sky we’ve looked at through telescopes for hundreds of years.

Making incredible strides and marking the UAE’s golden jubilee, this week marks a significant milestone in the history of the country with the UAE Mars Mission completing it’s journey through space.

The Hope Probe, is set arrive on the Red Planet on Tuesday February 9.

Celebrating the historic achievement of the UAE Mars Mission, many of the UAE’s most iconic landmarks have lit up red to celebrate the achievement.

In Dubai, Burj Khalifa, Burj Al Arab, Dubai Opera, Global Village, Dubai World Trade Centre, The Dubai Frame, The Museum of the Future and more have donned a red hue to mark the historic mission.

In Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Zayed Bridge, Emirates Palace, Qasr Al Watan, Khalifa University, Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), Yas Island, Marina Mall, Abu Dhabi Municipality, and Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium have also lit up to mark the occasion.

Elsewhere across the UAE, landmarks including Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (SHUROOQ), House of Wisdom, Fujairah Fort, Al Bidya Mosque, Sheikh Maktoum Bridge, Al Dhahia Fort, Jabal Jais and more have also been joining in the celebrations.

Ensuring the Hope Probe enters Mars’ orbit is a complex maneuvre and involves slowing the spacecraft down from 121,000 kmh to 18,000 kmh.

If successful, the first photos of the Red Planet will be transmitted in a week as the probe gathers information from the Martian atmosphere and relays data to Earth.

Data collected by UAE Mars Mission will be shared with more than 200 academic institutions around the world to benefit the global space community and help with the study of the potential of life on other planets.

All eyes will be on the skies this week as the probe touches down on Mars and we can’t wait to see it happen.
