Visited Abu Dhabi’s du arena in the past? Well the site is still as big and cool as ever, but it has a new name – Etihad Park. Etihad Airways is taking over the naming rights for Yas Island’s largest concert venue, formerly known as du arena.
Who doesn’t love a good concert? The screaming fans, must-buy paraphernalia and neon wristbands are all part of the fun. For residents of Abu Dhabi, a star-studded lineup of events at this venue is a major determining factor in our collective social calendars (or it will be, once live events are back).
The naming deal is part of a partnership between Etihad Airways and Flash Entertainment, which owns the arena. It comes after Etihad Airways agreed to the naming rights for Yas Island’s 18,000-capacity venue: Etihad Arena.
Tony Douglas, group chief executive of Etihad Aviation group has stated that in accordance with government safety guidelines in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, they’re looking forward to announcing an exciting calendar of events. We can’t wait.
The park is the largest custom-built open-air venue in the Middle East with a capacity for 40,000 people. It’s big and versatile enough to host quieter events along with the global superstars. (Can anyone forget those confetti explosions, colourful wristbands, and fireworks at the Coldplay concert in 2017? Chills.)
Here is where we’ve seen celebrities such as Rihanna, P!nk, J. Cole, Katy Perry, Madonna, and The Rolling Stones. Aside from the incredible performers, the venue has hosted more than 1.5 million fans since 2009. We screamed, danced, and maybe even cried a little while we were there.
Etihad Park is sure to host many more memory-making events under its new name. Located in the heart of Yas Island, it’s a year-round space for sports and events.
