Indian Premier League to take place in the UAE

Wickets, sixes and top class cricket is coming to the UAE in 2021

Are you ready to be hit for six? The Indian Premier League (IPL) will be returning to the UAE, as it has been confirmed that the biggest cricket competition in the world will play out the remainder of its 2021 campaign in the Emirates.

The news comes after The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BBCI) decided not to complete the tournament in India due to the monsoon season during the months of September and October this year, having previously been postponed in May due to COVID-19.

Currently there are no confirmed dates penciled into the schedule, however, it is hoped that the action will resume on Saturday September 18 or Sunday September 19.

The 2021 edition of the IPL will be the second time the UAE has played host to the tournament after it made its home for last year’s competition in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.

The final saw the Mumbai Indians defeated the Delhi Capitals at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai.

It is the second piece of exciting news in a week for cricket fans in the UAE after it was announced last week that the Pakistani Super League (PSL) would also be completing its tournament in Abu Dhabi at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium. (For everything you need to know about that click here).

The remaining 20 games are expected to be played behind closed doors.

Two cricket tournaments in your backyard? HOWZAT.
