Abu Dhabi named region’s most liveable city for second year in a row

Global Liveability Index 2021 puts capital on top

We know life in the capital is pretty awesome (understatement, much?) – and now that appeal is being recognised around the world after Abu Dhabi was named the most liveable city in the region for the second year in a row.

According to Global Liveability Index 2021, issued by The Economist Intelligence Unit (The EIU) – the research and analysis division of Economist Group – Abu Dhabi scored highly because of its economic development and robust response to the challenges of the pandemic.

Earlier this year Abu Dhabi topped a list of 25 leading cities for their protocols following the outbreak of the virus, with findings issued by London-based analytics consortium Deep Knowledge Group.

And just this week (Tuesday June 15) authorities introduced measures that require citizens and residents to have a valid green pass to access a broad range of facilities in the emirate. Click here for all the details.

Falah Muhammad Al Ahbabi, Chairman of the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), said leadership was always striving to improve lifestyle standards in the capital.

He added: “The unified efforts between all government entities and the holistic vision of our leaders have always been the cornerstone of the emirate’s pursuit to achieve more at all levels, including community development and quality of life in Abu Dhabi.

“We have always worked within the framework of a long-term strategy, in a proactive manner, which allows us to achieve the aspirations of our nation and implement people-centred plans.”

The capital was followed in the regional standings by Dubai, Bahrain, Kuwait City, Doha and Muscat.
