Abu Dhabi to begin National Sterilisation Programme on Monday July 19

Daily curfew in place from midnight to 5am

Abu Dhabi will begin an emirate-wide National Sterilisation Programme on Monday July 19, with daily curfews in place between midnight and 5am.

Residents and citizens will only be allowed to leave their homes during this time to stock up on essential supplies, namely food and medicine, and only with a special permit which can be applied for via adpolice.gov.ae

Restaurants, cafés, gyms (including gyms in hotels), spas in hotels, museums and entertainment centres in the capital will operate at 50 percent capacity during the National Sterilisation Programme, while public beaches and parks, as well as private swimming pools and beaches, will also be operating at half their usual volume.

The announcement comes from the Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Committee as the emirate continues its campaign to slow the spread of the virus.

Authorities went on to add that shopping malls will operate at 40 percent capacity and cinemas at 30 percent.

Public buses and ferries will run at 50 percent capacity, and only three people are permitted to ride in a five-passenger taxi, and four in a seven-seater.

Public transport will be unavailable during sterilisation hours.
