We’re all loving the sight of the airport right now. The world is opening up and we just can’t get enough.
But if you just can’t wait to stare in wonder at the departure board, or more importantly get stuck into the novelty-sized airplane meals, you can now take in the next best thing at a new Abu Dhabi restaurant dedicated to all things aviation.
Transit Terminal Food is a new (and standalone) arrival on the capital’s food scene, and it’s fair to say it has captured the imagination.
With an external façade that mimics a step towards the departures lounge at Abu Dhabi International Airport, the interior is half check-in counter, half fuselage complete with seats, and stick-on emergency exit doors.
Food is even served while you’re buckled into your chair. Fortunately, some seats face each other so it’s not entirely a sideways conversation with your dinner date.
So, what’s on the menu at a mile-high restaurant that’s firmly rooted to the ground?
Stuffed roasted peppers, pasta carbonara and beef and pineapple burgers are all marked with flags depicting their land of origin (Greece, Italy and Hawaii for those wanting a gastronomic geography lesson).
It’s also licensed, so be sure to grab yourself a Cuban mixed drink on your visit to this globetrotting eatery.
You even get away with being late for check-in (though we advise keeping to your booking as best you can).
Do we envisage a grounding experience when it’s time to settle the bill and step outside? You bet. Touch down at this soaring new spot on Hazaa Bin Zayed Street in Al Nahyan.
