Booster shot now required for Abu Dhabi government employees

Mandatory PCR tests have increased to seven days

Abu Dhabi government employees must be fully vaccinated with a booster shot to enter the workplace starting from Monday January 10.

The Department of Government Support, in co-ordination with Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Committee, announced that there will be mandatory vaccination and booster doses for all eligible employees in Abu Dhabi Government entities.

The decision applies to everyone working in all government entities in Abu Dhabi except for employees with medical exemptions. The update aims to further protect public health.

This announcement is in line with previous COVID-19 measures for government employees, which includes presenting a negative PCR test result every seven days to enter the workplace.

Visitors, customers and temporary employees entering government facilities must also present a negative PCR test result received within 48 hours.

The UAE recently also announced a travel ban on unvaccinated citizens. The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) made the announcement that from Monday January 10, 2022 there will be a ban on travel on UAE citizens who are unvaccinated against COVID-19.

Additionally, NCEMA revealed that there is a requirement for those who are fully vaccinated to obtain their COVID-19 booster doses. The COVID-19 protocol update was shared on Saturday January 1.

The travel ban will not apply to those with medical exemption. Click here to learn more about the travel ban for unvaccinated citizens.

Additionally, Abu Dhabi has updated its rules for travellers entering from within the UAE. Vaccinated people who are entering the capital will need to show green status on the Al Hosn app at the border in order to enter the emirate.

Those who are unvaccinated and wish to enter the emirate from within the UAE, must present a negative PCR test result received within 96 hours. Click here for the border update.
