The Ras Al Khaimah Fine Arts Festival is opening soon

This year is the festival’s 10th anniversary

The Ras Al Khaimah Fine Arts Festival is retuning for 2022 and it looks mega.

After a massive arts and culture event in the UAE? Ras Al Khaimah Fine Arts Festival (RAKFAF) is a celebration of contemporary art in the UAE and it will take place from Friday February 4 to Thursday March 31.

To mark its first ten years, the programme is bringing more than 150 artists from 45 countries. You can expect to see everything from fine art and photography to sculpture, film and poetry. This year’s theme is “The Journey” and artists have been asked to consider the theme through the lens of ancestry, migration, national identity and personal growth.

The festival is located at Al Jazirah Al Hamra Heritage Village home, and is a large-scale outdoor exhibition. The building is the historic home of the Al Zaabi tribe, and the pearling village now acts as a bridge between cultural heritage and contemporary art. In recognition of RAK’s connection to the desert, the mountains and the sea, the festival also hosts satellite exhibitions at Jebel Jais and Marjan Island.

RAKFAF is a nonprofit community arts festival designed to showcase the work of local and emerging artists. It is an initiative of the Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi Foundation for Policy Research, and aims to contribute to the cultural development of Ras Al Khaimah.

This year’s featured artist is Yousef Al Zaabi, a Ras Al Khaimah-based Emirati photographer. He specialises in portraiture and street photography and has participated in over 40 exhibitions in the UAE and a further four abroad.

Are you ready to see some incredible contemporary art? Let’s go.
