UAE ranks third in the world for response to COVID-19

The UAE ranks third place in the world for response to COVID-19 on this month’s Bloomberg’s Covid Resilience Ranking, climbing the list as the world opens up again.

The Covid Resilience Ranking determines the best and worst countries to be in as COVID-19 restrictions ease and reopening gathers pace. The UAE is behind only Ireland (which ranks first) and Spain (which ranks second).

Those of us who call the UAE home know that there are countless things that make the place so special – spectacular beaches and year-round sunny weather included.

The UAE was also recently recognised by expats as one of the best places to work in the world.

The Covid Resilience Ranking is a monthly look at where in the world the virus is being handled the most effectively with the least social and economic upheaval.

Bloomberg compiles the list using 12 data indicators across virus containment, quality of healthcare, vaccination coverage, overall mortality and progress toward restarting travel.

Ireland remains in the top spot for the second month in a row, with more than 90 percent of adults vaccinated, and the country is reopening cautiously allowing bars and restaurants to resume normal opening hours for vaccinated patrons.

Spain comes in second, after being one of the worst hit countries in the beginning of the pandemic. The country has largely eased social gathering restrictions and removed curfews, while flight capacity – a key measure of reopening – recovered to more than 70 percent of pre-pandemic levels.

The high ranking is due in part to a continued decrease in the number of cases and deaths in the UAE, plus extremely high vaccination rates.
