Eid-Al-Fitr in Abu Dhabi: fireworks at night

UAE public holidays: When is Eid Al-Fitr 2022?

The next public holiday in Abu Dhabi is expected to fall in the first week in May

As we reach the end of the first week of Ramadan, it’s the question on everyone’s lips; when is Eid Al-Fitr 2022?

Our thoughts are beginning to look towards the next public holiday, Eid Al-Fitr 2022, and booking some well-deserved time off in the form of Eid holiday breaks.

It’s been a busy start to the year and we could all do with a holiday, right?

What is Eid Al-Fitr?

Eid Al Fitr marks the end of Ramadan; a month of daily fasting and reflection for those observing. One of the most important months in the Islamic calendar, it is a time when Muslims will fast from sunrise to sunset for approximately 30 days. The month of Ramadan officially started on Saturday April 2, following a meeting of the UAE’s Moon Sighting Committee and Abu Dhabi Judicial Department.

When is Eid Al-Fitr 2022?

Based on the lunar cycle and Islamic calendar, the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Eid Al Fitr is expected to take place between Ramadan 29 and Shawwal 3.

This means that Eid Al Fitr for 2022 is expected to begin at sunset on Sunday May 1, although this is still awaiting confirmation from official government bodies.

Should Eid Al Fitr begin on the eve of Sunday May 1, this would mean that the Eid Al Fitr public holiday would run from Monday May 2, through to the evening of Wednesday May 4 (back to work on Thursday May 5).

For those following the new Monday to Friday working week, this could mean three days’ holiday during the week.

Hurrah!
