One of the best things about summer in Abu Dhabi is that it gives us an extra excuse to eat lots and lots of delicious ice cream.
Of course, we never struggle to find a reason to justify another double-scoop of salted caramel, but, when the weather is warm, our favourite icy dessert just tastes even better. This summer the standard of ice cream in Abu Dhabi has risen dramatically, and it’s all down to the arrival of iScream.
The creative ice cream shop is already a huge hit up the road in Dubai and now it has opened up a branch in eco-friendly mall My City Centre Masdar. Nothing about this quirky parlour is ordinary, and with more than 60 flavours to choose from, it’s the perfect place to try something different.
Umm ali, black sesame and matcha green tea varieties are the latest tubs to hit the freezers, but some of the more unusual varieties include emirati coffee, red velvet, Mexican chilli chocolate, kulfi and date.
Think that all sounds fairly safe? Well, if you’re feeling really adventurous then you can also try ice creams flavoured with curry, wasabi, purple yam and even tabbouleh.
And, no, we’re not making any of this up.
Once you’ve chosen your out-of-the-ordinary flavour, you can have it presented in a number of totally wacky ways.
Firstly, there’s the shockingly blue Mrs Sugar’s Burrito. Featuring a ‘wrap’ of candy floss stuffed with ice cream and covered with a topping of your choice, it really bears no resemblance to everyone’s favourite Mexican dish, but we still love everything about it. Or, if you can’t get enough of sweet candy floss, you can go for the iScream cloud, which comes encased in a huge ball of sugary goodness (just be prepared to get very sticky).
Meanwhile, the most ‘out there’ dessert has to be the Scream-O-Burger. If burgers and ice creams are your two top foods then you’re in luck, because now you can enjoy creamy ice cream sandwiched in a brioche bun.
It’s ridiculous, but also so, so good.
