Brunch, set menus, cultural performances and more

Looking for something cool and cultural to do in Abu Dhabi this weekend?

Then make a beeline to Abu Dhabi’s Shangri-La Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri for its annual lantern and moon festival.

Taking place on Friday October 2, the family-friendly Mid-Autumn Festival will feature street food dishes, special cultural performances and a lantern-making workshop for the kiddies.

The day kicks off at 1pm with brunch at international eatery Sofra. Priced at Dhs279 with soft drinks, Dhs349 with house beverages and Dhs459 with free-flowing bubbly, the brunch features live stations with dishes from different Chinese and Vietnamese regions and also includes pool and beach access for the day.

The festivities continue with a street food-style dinner at the award-winning Shang Palace. Highlights on the specially curated set menu include chicken and shrimp dumplings, sesame prawn toast, pan-fried chicken pot stickers, crispy beef short ribs, udon noodles and a cold mango soup with sago and pomelo.

Fans of Asian fare can also enjoy a lantern-lit dinner at Vietnamese restaurant, Hoi An. The set menu promises to showcase traditional Vietnamese cuisine through dishes such as soft-shell crab, duck spring rolls with hoisin sauce, chargrilled seabass served in a banana leaf, grilled marinated chicken, pineapple rice and ginger crème brûlée.

The mid-Autumn festival dinner at both the restaurants will take place from 7pm until 11pm and is priced at Dhs168 per person with soft drinks or Dhs218 with house beverages.

Throughout the day there will also be a Chinese tea master show, a “face changing” performance (an ancient Chinese dramatic art) and live music played on traditional Chinese and Vietnamese instruments during dinner.
