Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup to take place in the UAE

Sixes, wickets and international top cricket

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 has been shifted to the UAE, with the tournament set to take place from Sunday October 17 to Sunday November 14.

Games will be staged at the Dubai International Stadium, the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, the Sharjah Stadium, as well as just over border at the Oman Cricket Academy Ground in Muscat.

The decision to move the tournament comes after a serious rise in COVID-19 cases in the original host nation, India.

The tournament will see the best 16 teams from around the globe compete for the title of world champion in the sport’s shortest (and arguably most exhilarating) format.

The upcoming edition will be the first Men’s T20 World Cup since 2016 when the West Indies overcame England in the final over in the decider in India.

It is the third piece of exciting of news in recent months for cricket fans in the UAE, with the Pakistani Super League (PSL) and Indian Premier League (IPL) being moved to the emirate due to the pandemic.

The PSL was successfully completed on Thursday June 24 with Multan Sultans defeating Peshawar Zalmi in the final by 47 runs.

The IPL is currently slotted in for a September commencement with the final being played out just days before the beginning of the World Cup.
