A guide to Yas Links Abu Dhabi

All you need to know about the Yas Island golf course

If you’re looking to get sporty on Yas Island, there’s more than Yas Marina Circuit to help you burn some fuel.

Abu Dhabi is home to some impressive golf courses, and while there are a couple scattered close to and within the city, Yas Links Abu Dhabi enjoys the advantage of being the only one on the island.

With the F1 circuit on one side, the picturesque 18-hole course is flanked by three kilometres of the Arabian Gulf on the other. It’s a beautiful sight, but that beauty comes at a price (when it comes to the conditions, that is). The proximity to waters increases the chances of unpredictable winds, thereby increasing the difficulty level of the nine water-side holes on the stunning par-72 course.

Yas Links opened back in 2010 and has gone on to receive much praise since then. The course was designed by Kyle Phillips, whose other noteworthy designs include Kingsbarns in Scotland and Verdura in Sicily – two equally scenic, waterfront courses. Golf Digest ranked it one of the top 25 courses in the world 2012.

If you’re looking to pick up the game, Yas Links runs a well-equipped, nine-hole Golf Academy. It’s kitted out with two indoor swing studios, six covered driving bays, practice chipping and bunker areas and floodlit practice facilities.

Once you’re done putting around, head over to sports bar Hickory’s as you watch the pros battle it out on screen. Or pop over to Mediterranean-inspired space Barranca and relax by the pool.
