Abu Dhabi announces official National Day Celebrations for December 2

The UAE’s 49th National Day is coming soon

National Day is just around the corner and already we can see the flags and lights popping up in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah.

A public holiday will take place to mark the occasion on December 2 and 3.

Plus December 1 is also a holiday for Commemoration Day, giving the public three days off and a potential five-day weekend.

Each year National Day is a big celebration it the country but this year things will be a little different.

For 2020, the official National Day celebration will be held with no crowds to ensure public safety in the UAE.

The Organising Committee of the Official 49th National Day Celebration have announced that the Seeds of the Nation show will be broadcast across the country.

The show will feature a moving sculpture surrounded by the sea and will be illuminated by digital visuals portraying themes inspired by the nation’s history and values and the founding fathers.

The show will be broadcast on television and online so UAE nationals an expats can watch and celebrate the occasion.

“The COVID-19 pandemic required us to approach the official 49th UAE National Day celebrations in a new and ambitious way – one that uses digital visual technology to inspire an audience watching from home,” said Khalfan Al Mazrouei, Organising Committee of the Official 49th UAE National Day Celebration member.

“The overarching theme of the live show is one of hope and optimism. Embracing the country’s rich legacy and traditions, it looks ahead to a vivid future in which we remain true to our values.

“The narrative of the show artistically revolves around the growth and transformation of a seed into a shoot and then finally into full bloom, mirroring the journey the UAE has taken in the last 49 years.”

More details of the show are set to be revealed in the coming weeks.

Looking ahead, the UAE will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2021 and we’re confident there will be huge celebrations across the country come December to mark the golden jubilee.
