Calling all designers and creatives – are you interested in designing your own furniture?
Makerspace Al Zeina is collaborating with the American University of Sharjah to help budding furniture designers expand their expertise with the Athath Fellowship. This programme is taking place in Abu Dhabi from Saturday October 23 to Saturday February 19 and is a 15-week course to train anyone with a keen interest in furniture design.

The fellowship will be led by Ammar Kalo, a furniture designer, architect, and associate professor at the American University of Sharjah. Through the course you will be taken through the history of furniture design, production, and prototyping resulting in a final piece to be proud of. Guest lecturers and speakers will also be part of the programme, including those with the critically acclaimed Design House Fritz Hansen in Copenhagen. There will also be practical skill training in the studio with the Makerspace team.
The course is broken down into three phases: first you learn how to develop a concept, then you create a prototype and explore the areas of production, and finally you develop a final business model. Applications are open until Tuesday September 21 at midnight. The course will cost you Dhs9,950 with an exhibition at the end of the programme.
