Can you believe it? Time Out Market Dubai is celebrating its first anniversary in April, and with it comes the announcement of four tantalisingly tempting new home-grown Dubai eateries to taste and try.

Some of the city’s most popular restaurants have now joined the Downtown Dubai dining destination. Portuguese favourite Lana Lusa, creative Latin American concept SLAB cocina, The Lighthouse – Pastry and Dessert, and Boon Coffee are the new vendors you need to know.

Time Out Market Dubai is located at Souk Al Bahar and stars 18 restaurants and three bars over its 43,000 sq ft space, so there is more than enough to keep you coming back time and again.

Whether you’re in the mood for pizza or pud, the market’s home-grown names plate up super-delicious dishes that you’re going to want to check out.

Not only is there fantastic food, the Market also serves up stunning views from its location overlooking The Dubai Fountain. There’s even a terrace for up-close access to the attraction.

The exciting venue has been curated by Time Out Dubai’s editorial team, and is the seventh Time Out Market globally, following in the footsteps of Lisbon, New York, Miami, Chicago, Boston and Montreal.

Al Fanar Restaurant


Time Out Market Dubai serves up traditional Emirati dishes from Al Fanar. The popular restaurant has been operating in the city since 2011 and aims to educate diners about Emirati cuisine through its traditional dishes. The eatery’s Time Out Market outpost whips up authentic dishes thanks to Emirati recipes passed down through generations. Some of the most popular dishes are sautéed black tiger prawns with slow-cooked biryani rice, sea bass machboos, and classic dessert luqaimat – a sweet syrupy dish.

BB Social Dining


If you love bao, then this will be high on your list. This fantastically creative, multi-award-winning restaurant is famed for its bites, bowls and more. Silky and slurpable pho and ramen sit alongside innovative bao and tasty barbecue. Dishes come from executive chef and co-founder Alex Stumpf, and BB’s wagyu katsu sando has become so popular it’s even led to a spin-off for the team – The Little Katsu Shop. Other signature dishes include the habibi (short rib bao), habibiti (soft shell crab bao) and cauliflower popcorn with truffle tofu sauce.

Boon Coffee


Coffee connoisseurs are well looked after at Time Out Market. Boon Coffee is well respected for its use of only the best Arabica coffee beans, sourced from farms in Ethiopia. The perfect bean means the perfect cup, and here the nitro infused cold brew is the best in the city. There’s also all your classic favourites, iced teas and plenty to eat as well, from avocado toast to the quinoa cruffin.

Fulvio’s Kitchen


This bespoke concept is a fresh launch from Fulvio Opalio, head chef at Orange Hospitality, the operators of Il Borro Tuscan Bistro. Fulvio’s Kitchen at Time Out Market Dubai is a must-try for fans of Italian cuisine, and signature dishes on the menu include Parmesan wheel risotto, pumpkin tortelli, burrata, grilled octopus and veal ragu tagliatelle.

Lana Lusa


Portuguese cuisine flew largely under the radar in Dubai until October 2020, when Lana Lusa swooped into the dining scene, opening at Wasl 51 mall in Jumeirah. Its traditional representation of Portugal’s signature dishes, from the bacalhau a bras to pasteis de nata, quickly made it a household name, and now finally, there’s a second place to get your fix, right in the heart of the city.

Liban by Allo Beirut

Popular budget street food eatery Allo Beirut has a spin-off for Time Out Market Dubai, and this is the place to snap up authentic Lebanese street food in Souk Al Bahar. The new restaurant’s menu features mezze, sharwarma, mixed grills and more, and dishes draw on nostalgia and familiar flavours to provide a comforting take on Lebanese favourites.

This authentic Chinese seafood restaurant is a massive hit in the city. Long Teng serves up a huge range of dim sum, all made with seasonal ingredients. From its Market location, diners can look forward to classic dumplings, fresh seafood and Long Teng’s famous seafood rice, plus lots more.

Masti


Masti opened at Dubai’s seaside dining destination La Mer to much fanfare – and with good reason. Exciting Indian fusion dishes are the mainstay of the menu, while the innovative mixed drinks are also a draw. Creative dishes come from head chef Prashant Chipkar, with the tuna bhel tartare – a spin on the popular street food – a huge hit at the restaurant. Dishes on the inventive menu include chipotle paneer and burrata butter chicken.

Mattar – Third Culture Barbecue


You’ll know this smoked meat powerhouse from pop-ups around the city. Hattem Mattar is the top pitmaster of Dubai and now his super-tasty barbecue dishes are available at Time Out Market Dubai every day of the week. A new menu for 2022 includes smoked brisket, chorizo and pastrami and our absolute faves, the brisket burnt ends.

Pickl


Pickl is a fan favourite serving up the most famous fried-chicken sandwiches and burgers in town. Starting life in JLT, there’s now an outlet in Deira, as well as a food truck in uptown Mirdif, satisfying Pickl-lovers across the city. No surprise founder Steve Flawith takes his sandwiches seriously, with new flavour combinations and dishes popping up on Pickl’s menu frequently.

Pitfire


Famous for its New York-meets-Neapolitan pizza and original topping mash-ups, Pitfire commands a loyal following. Set up by Michele and Bill Johnson, the JLT fave promises big pies with even bigger personalities. Signature pizzas include Pitfire Primo, the Truff Daddy and Bill’s Special, while Pitfire is known for its tasty crushed tomato sauce and super-fresh mozzarella.

A household name in Dubai after heading up the kitchens of many award-winning restaurants – including Zuma and PLAY – Reif Othman is now out on his own with this hugely popular eatery. Much loved for its silky smooth ramen and tasty kushiyaki skewers, Reif Japanese Kushiyaki is a top spot for casual dining featuring dishes bursting with flavour.

This dessert café is known for its innovative ice creams, chilled with liquid nitrogen. The Black Diamond is famed for being the most expensive ice cream in the city – made with Italian truffles, Iranian saffron and finished with 23-karat gold, so get ready for a stellar sweet experience.

SLAB cocina is a brand-new concept created for Time Out Market by the creative force behind SLAB Test Kitchen, chef Omar Rodrigues. From cooking at some of New York’s finest restaurants to specialising in Peruvian cuisine, Rodrigues now focuses on offering simple but clever casual food to the diners of Dubai, and he’ll be reaching even more of them thanks to this new set-up. Try the tuna tostada Nikkei, pictured above, and look out for the corn fritters and the Peruvian BBQ shrimp, both expected to be sell-out dishes.

The Lighthouse – Pastry and Dessert

Loved for its café fare and cute concept store style, The Lighthouse is one of Dubai’s most fastest growing casual dining eateries. While the original venues offer savoury and sweet items, at Time Out Market, this new spin off has its eyes firmly on the finish, with an abundance of cakes and pastries to choose from. The Lighthouse umm ali is a signature you have to try, but there’s also pistachio eclairs, passion fruit and yuzu cheesecake, saffron milk cake and tiramisu. Our advice? Try a different pud on every visit.

Two leaves by Project Chaiwala


Another brand-new concept for Time Out Market Dubai. From the team behind Project Chaiwala, Two Leaves serves street food-inspired dishes. The teahouse rose to popularity through an outlet at indie playhouse Cinema Akil. Loved for its traditionally made chai, the team’s sweet tea mixed with delicious spices such as cardamom and ginger, is the perfect partner to its super ‘smashmosas’.

Vietnamese Foodies


Vietnamese Foodies has made a huge splash since opening in JLT, so much so that it now has a larger branch in Burj Views, catering for all those hungry for pho in Downtown Dubai. The cute, pocket-friendly eatery serves up super-authentic Vietnamese cuisine and has picked up several Time Out Dubai awards for its outstanding dishes. Signature dishes include short-rib pho and green papaya and prawn salad.
