Emirates allows passengers to purchase empty seats

No more awkward shuffling down the row

Health-conscious travellers are now able to purchase up to three empty adjoining seats when flying with Emirates.

There’s not a frequent flyer in the land – or sky for that matter – who doesn’t crave a bit of extra leg-room when collecting passport stamps.

And now Emirates has gone one step beyond to give passengers more room for mid-flight stretching and snoozing than they’ve ever experienced before.

The airline has introduced a new scheme that will afford economy class customers the freedom to push the boundaries of their personal bubble when jet setting around the world.

Vacant seats will be offered to flyers – subject to availability – at the airport check-in counter prior to departure.

They can’t be booked in advance, and costs range from Dhs200 to Dhs600 per seat, plus taxes.

Emirates bosses said the service comes in response to customer feedback, which cited assurance of more space while travelling during a pandemic as a primary factor.

The airline also noted couples who wish to have the entire row to themselves (maximum of three seats in same row) and parents travelling with in-lap infants as other forces behind the development of the offer.

No more shuffling down the row to use the bathroom.
