Dragon boating is serious business here in Abu Dhabi.
Although it might sound like a sport played a Hogwarts, there are many dragon boating groups right here in the capital.
One of the biggest events for these teams is the Abu Dhabi Dragon Boat Festival, and the 13th edition of the event will be taking place over the weekend of October 18 to 19 at the Shangri-La Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi.
Hosted in collaboration with Siren Events, UAE Dragon Boat and the United Arab Emirates Sailing and Rowing Federation, everyone is encouraged to sign up and take part in this exciting race.
Corporate or social teams of up to 20 paddlers can enter for Dhs10,000, Community Cup teams with a maximum of 12 paddlers can enter for Dhs5,000 and school, university and international teams can sign up for Dhs2,500.
There’s no need to feel left out if you don’t have a team either, as paddlers can also also sign up as an individual for Dhs500.

Or, if you don’t want to take part, you can always come along, soak up the exciting atmosphere and cheer on the teams from the banks of the Grand Canal.
The Shangri-La is also offering special rates for the weekend with rates starting from Dhs730, while Afya Beach Lounge at Traders Hotel is hosting a barbecue of unlimited food for Dhs206 per person.
