Win Dhs15,000 with UAE’s Best Homemade Cake Contest 2019

The contest is open to anyone who doesn’t own a baking business…

Ever brought a cake out of the oven, iced it up and thought “this should be in the Great British Bake Off”? Well, you can now do one better.

Country-wide baking competition, UAE’s Best Homemade Cake Contest 2019, wants amateur bakers to create a sculpted masterpiece, with the winner bringing home a whopping Dhs15,000 prize.

What’s more, second place will get a nice Dhs10,000 cash prize, with third place getting Dhs5,000. Now that’s icing on the, erm, cake.

Intimated by the competition? You shouldn’t be, as it’s only allowing bakers who don’t already own a business to compete – fair is fair. If you’re 15 and older, you’re in.

The contest will be split into two rounds, and you can sign up to the first right now by visiting www.uaesbest.com. There’s an entry fee of Dhs250, with a submission deadline on Thursday September 26.

All signed up? The first round requires contestants to make their finest homemade masterpiece and bring them to the Indian Academy School, where they will be judged by their creativity, texture, flavour and presentation.

Participants will be able to make anything from chocolate to lemon cakes, along with multi-layered to sculpted cakes. Take your pick and start piling on that frosting.

Cakes will need to be ready for the big day of the first round on Saturday September 28. The top 20 cakes will then be passed to the big grand finale on Friday October 4. Fingers crossed.

Didn’t make it to the final? Not to worry. The Wild Card Entry will see contestants with the most likes via pictures of their cakes on Facebook get a free pass to the finals. Better make them look as tasty as possible.

“Through this competition, we intend to find exceptional but unidentified bakers from all over the UAE and give them a platform through which they can showcase their ability,” said CEO of WOSA Faizal Abdul Karim.
