The latest update on Abu Dhabi road tolls

The tolls will be activated from January 1 2020

By now you must be aware of the introduction of road tolls in Abu Dhabi.

If not, here’s all you need to know, so you can get up to speed.

Sorry, that’s a terrible pun.

Road tolls are set to begin a trial in Abu Dhabi on October 15 before being activated on January 1 2020.

If you’re a driver with a vehicle registered in Abu Dhabi it’s simple to get toll-ready ahead of the launch.

In fact, you don’t need to do anything until you get contacted on your contact number registered to your vehicle.

The good news is that drivers in Abu Dhabi will be automatically registered to the system and will receive a text message with their log in details to the portal where drivers can add credit and verify their account.

Text messages will arrive in the run up to the launch, so don’t panic if you haven’t received yours yet.

Drivers who own vehicles that are registered in other emirates will have to create an account and add Dhs100.

These users must have a valid Emirates ID card, car registration, email address and phone number to create their account.

An amount of the Dhs100 deposit, said to be Dhs50, will be paid back into the users account to be used to pay tolls.

So if you’ve got your text then go ahead and log in to add credit to your account.

If your vehicle is registered in any other emirate than Abu Dhabi you need to create an account.

And, if you’ve not received your text yet, sit tight, it’s coming and you’ll be sorted it plenty of time, the Department of Transport says.

Drive safe.
