My bar: Heroes

We take a sneaky peek around Heroes at the Crowne Plaza….

We stop by for a chat with Sean Murphy, the manager of Heroes bar in Abu Dhabi…

So, tell us about yourself and your bar?
Well, seeing as you asked so nicely, I’m Sean Murphy and I run Heroes in the Crowne Plaza Abu Dhabi (Hamdan Street for you newbie’s in town, don’t get confused). I also run Level Lounge on the roof and our little hideaway Vincent’s on the 9th Floor.

What did you have for breakfast this morning?
You mean lunch don’t you? Anyone who runs a bar in Abu Dhabi or Dubai has probably not had breakfast since they were at school! … Anyway I had a ‘Mojito Chili Chicken Salad’, trying to get a bit healthy before its too late.

How long have you been in Dubai/Abu Dhabi?
Three-years, seeing as most people had a bet on me only lasting three-months in the job I don’t think I’m doing too badly!

Do you prefer cats or dogs?
Dogs. No comments, please.

How would you spend your ideal day in Dubai/Abu Dhabi?
There’s never ideal day in this industry, but my normal day off would consist of catching up with some sleep until about Midday, then heading down to the beach for some much needed fresh air and a swim then grab some lunch, back to the flat to catch up on some TV until the sun goes down then head out on the town.

Beach or pool?
Beach

Tell us about your bar/club?
Well, Heroes is its own institution really. We show every single sport that is broadcast in the Middle East, serve fantastic food, and have probably have the best entertainment in town. Mix this with a great team and you’ve got Heroes. At the end of the day, this bar really does what it says on the tin and I guess that’s why we’re so popular.

What’s your favourite food?
Italian, which is very handy as we are opening up a new Italian restaurant in April here at Crowne Plaza so am looking forward to ordering my first metre long pizza!

We fancy coming down, what night’s best to try?
Depends on what you’re into? If you love Sports you will not beat Saturday and Sundays and any other night there’s a big game on. If you love listening to some of the finest entertainers to step foot in the Middle East, you’ve got Tuesday to Friday to lap them up. If you’re out for a big one, then Thursday’s is always crammed on the dance floor. Heroes is generally just a cool place to come with friends and have a great evening with some good food and drinks.

Do you have a happy hour?
Yep! Dhs15 “cold ones” daily between 4.30pm and 8.30pm! We also give out free Mojito’s on a Wednesday between 6pm and 10pm for the ladies.

You heard the man. What are you still doing at your desk?
