The Wilson Tennis Festival is coming to Abu Dhabi this weekend

It’s the perfect time to get into tennis

Abu Dhabi offers a wide range of sporting and fitness pursuits for the more active among us, and while some gyms and sports teams come with quite pricey membership packages, other activities such as cycling around Yas Marina circuit and Step ZSC can be enjoyed for no cost at all.

And so when we heard Zayed Sports City has teamed up with sporting equipment company Wilson to offer Abu Dhabi residents the chance to try playing tennis for free this autumn, we were digging out our headbands quicker than a Rafa Nadal serve.

The Wilson Tennis Festival will feature tennis sessions led by certified coaches, the chance to test out new equipment, kids’ tennis stations and open courts where you can show off the skills you just learned.

There’s also a pop-up shop, prizes to be won and bouncy castles if the little ones need a break from sport.

The event is absolutely free and open to anyone with an interest in tennis, so if you need to work on your technique, want to get started in the game or are just so excited for the Mubadala World Tennis Championship and want to get involved, the event has all the bases covered. Plus, with the weather already getting cooler, now is the perfect time to take up a new outdoor activity.

The event on Friday, October 18 at Zayed Sports City is open to men and women of all ages, while the day at Abu Dhabi Ladies Club on Saturday, November 9 is for ladies only.

No registration is required for either session, all you need to do is head along between 4pm and 8pm and you can join in.

Tony Kouris, general manager of Zayed Sports City, says: “With interest in tennis growing in the capital, ZSC has teamed up with Wilson to give more people a unique way to experience the sport.

“This is an opportunity for anyone who loves tennis to experience it in different ways, from coaching tips to trying the latest advancements in rackets and gear.

“The Wilson Tennis Festival is a fun, relaxed environment that promotes tennis to children and adults of all levels.

“We also believe that getting more women involved in sports is of particular importance, which is why we are holding a ladies-only version of the event at the Abu Dhabi Ladies Club as well.”
