A Traditional Handicrafts Festival will return to Al Ain next month

It’s a great chance to explore some local heritage

There are loads of great cultural experiences to enjoy in Abu Dhabi, from amazing attractions to immersive workshops and exhibitions.

If you’re like us and want to know more about the traditions and heritage of the UAE, then you can soak up some knowledge and get insight into the past at a returning cultural festival.

The Traditional Handicrafts Festival is set to return to Al Ain from October 31 to November 16.

Held under theme of ‘Crafts of Our Ancestors, Pride of the People’, the sixth annual event will celebrate traditional crafts practiced in the UAE for centuries.

Activities being featured at the event include palm frond weaving, pottery, spinning, jewellery making, falconry and a host of traditional performances.

Children will also be able to take part in a range of activities and a traditional market will sell clothing, handicrafts, Arabic coffee and other handmade items made my local artisans.

“The Traditional Handicrafts Festival returns to Al Qattara Souq year after year to emphasise DCT Abu Dhabi’s commitment to preserving our ancestors’ heritage that is represented in their handmade crafts and environmentally-adaptable products, some of which made a source of income for many,” said Saeed Hamad Al Kaabi, intangible heritage director at DCT Abu Dhabi.

“The Festival aims at raising the coming generation’s awareness of the great value in our nation’s rich past and heritage, while providing the ideal platform for families to interact with heritage and its artistic components.”
