New retro gaming console announced at Insomnia Dubai

Intellivision Amico will have an exclusive Arabic version just for the Middle East

With next-generation gaming consoles launching soon and Esports gaining a huge reputation, especially in the Middle East, ‘hardcore’ gamers are well catered for. But, how about the casual gamers?

President of Intellivision Entertainment and all-round video game icon Tommy Tallarico revealed a new retro gaming console, the Intellivision Amico, during the Insomnia Gaming Festival Dubai, and its aims to cater to the Middle East’s growing appetite for gaming.

During the UAE reveal, Tallarico stated that the console will be launching an exclusive Arabic version of the console.

As for the console itself, Amico aims to bring back family-friendly gaming and “couch co-op”, coming with two touchscreen-type controllers. Even better, other players can download a free app on their smartphones that act as controllers – just like bringing your own controllers to your pal’s house back in the day.

As for its games, gamers can expect an all-exclusive curated library of games just for the Amico, starting off with around 50 games at launch. Games will only cost $10 (around Dhs35), and will feature updates on popular classics, along with brand-new titles made just for the console.

Better yet, a new Earthworm Jim sequel is in the works exclusively for the console, created with the franchise’s original development team.

Intellivision Amico is set to launch in October, 2020, and we can’t wait to see that classic retro revival.

That’s not all Tommy Tallarico brought to Insomnia, as he also rocked out with original Pokémon theme singer Jason Paige performing the Pokémon song live for the first time ever in the Middle East, exclusively on Insomnia Dubai’s main stage.
