Why you should check out Abu Dhabi’s Balcon Lounge and Terrace for an al fresco meal

While the weather is perfect

At this time of year we soon realise how much we’ve missed eating out at places such as Balcon, that are pretty much no-go zones during the summer.

It’s one of our favourite spots in the capital for some al fresco dining, and it even comes with its own illuminated reflection pool and cabana beds.

The venue has just introduced a new menu, too. So while you’re lounging around under the stars, you can feast with friends on specialities from the Middle East, Mediterranean and Asia, with each designed to be shared tapas-style (this isn’t a place to be selfish, you’ll soon find out).

The new selection of platters has really caught our attention.

The Arabian version with its array of nibbles such as beef kebab, shish taouk, shrimp harra and dips and bread will give your gang a taste of something more local, while the Asian spread of edamame, beef satay, pandan chicken, shrimp gyoza and mussels is also very much a winner in our eyes.

Sushi lovers will be impressed, too, as that’s another Balcon speciality.

You’ll find maki rolls filled with shrimp tempura or spicy tuna, fresh sashimi and enormous combination platters with a bit of everything on them.

Italy has a big influence here as well, and if you’re looking to carb-load after a particularly draining day then you don’t need to look any further than the superb pasta and pizza selection on offer.

Meanwhile, the meat-free options include fresh bowls of pesto and arrabiata pasta, plus some homemade gnocchi.

If that’s not enough to whet your appetite, there’s also a wide choice of classic mixed drinks to wash this new range of dishes down with. Welcome back, Balcon.
