UAE Tech news of the week: Apple+ UAE lands and Call of Duty scraps loot boxes

Is Netflix watching us?

The winter season may bring joy to those looking for al fresco lounging, but in the tech world, it means a slew of new releases. Christmas looms, after all.

In fact, Apple is finally bringing out its much-anticipated streaming service this weekend, and it comes with quite the selection of shows to binge-watch. If you’re not watching, you’re playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare we bet, but don’t expect any boxes to loot.

Check out the top three stories below, you may learn a thing or two about Netflix…

Battle more, Loot less
The new and (hopefully) improved Call of Duty: Modern Warefare has been getting backlash over its rumour of using the much despised loot boxes. Well, despise no more, as the 2019 edition is ditching loot boxes for a Battle Pass instead. Akin to Fortnite’s own Battle Pass, the better you place, the more you earn.

How you like them Apples+?
Seen everything there is on Amazon Prime Video and Netflix? You won’t have to wait much longer for a whole bunch of new TV shows to binge-watch. Apple TV+ is coming on Friday November 1, its first all-original video subscription service, to the UAE, and it’s priced at Dhs19.99 per month. But first, a seven day free trial…

Netflix is watching you
Apparently, Netflix is conveniently placing us in categories, although it’s not as creepy as it sounds. To track our viewing habits, Netflix uses three categories of views: Starters, Watchers and Completers. Starters only watch the first two minutes of a show, while Completers watch 90 percent of a show. That includes end credits, but who stays for that?
