Why you won’t want to miss out on Sharjah Art Foundation’s autumn exhibitions

Sponsored: Soak up some culture at one of these eight exhibitions

Sharjah is undoubtedly the art capital of the UAE, with plenty of galleries for you to enjoy.

And now there are even more free exhibitions and shows for you to check out this autumn at Sharjah Art Foundation.

No matter what you’re looking for, whether that’s photography, music, architecture or live performances, you’re bound to find it at one of this season’s eight exhibitions.

This includes the first ever solo exhibition in the region for Bani Abidi, a Pakistani video artist whose work focuses on personal memory, patriotism and geopolitics in South Asia.

You’ll also be able to explore the life of prominent artist Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian, who passed away earlier this year, through a major retrospective at Al Hamrah Studios. The exhibition includes 1970s sculptures and unseen collages from the 1980s, plus some of the last drawings she ever created.

If all this artwork is inspiring you to get involved, make sure you book onto one of the 150 free workshops aimed at children and adults of all levels during the season which runs until early 2020.

You can also learn more about the art through a guided tour, which you can book at the information centre at Al Mureijah Art Spaces, or by emailing tour@sharjahart.org.

And, if you’re more of a film person than an art lover, you won’t want to miss out on the Sharjah Film Platform next month.

From December 14 until 21, the Sharjah Art Foundation will be screening more than 50 short and feature-length narrative, documentary and experimental films, and hosting talks and workshops by filmmakers.

If you’re just passing through Sharjah, the majority of the galleries are conveniently located in the heart of Sharjah, so you easily can combine your day out with visits to the emirate’s old souks and top coffee shops or cafes, too.

Even the galleries themselves are architectural wonders, with a number of the venues in restored UNESCO heritage buildings, so you can take plenty of shots for the ‘gram as well.

With so many free things to do at Sharjah Art Foundation this autumn, you’d be silly not to head there right away.
