As recently as 2006, Leona Lewis was just a young lady with a lovely voice shivering out in the cold while waiting for her chance to warble Simon Cowell’s socks off. Today, she’s a multi-platinum superstar with number one albums in nine countries and a credit on the Avatar soundtrack. And guess what? She’ll be making a one-off appearance in Abu Dhabi in just a couple of weeks’ time.
The 25-year-old has been confirmed to perform at The Ball, a charity event being put on by Flash Entertainment to raise funds for the Naked Heart Foundation, where she’ll appear alongside Sophie Ellis Bextor and Grammy Award-winning singer Sarah McLachlan. The evening includes a four-course dinner prior to the live performances and is due to be rounded off with a charity auction, in which a host of celebrity guests are expected to participate.

Billed as one of the most exclusive parties on the city’s social calendar, prices start at Dhs25,000 for a VIP table for ten, with tickets available from Global Event Management (04 444 0742). The venue for the party is still to be confirmed, but a suitably swanky spot in one of the city’s five-star hotels has been promised.
