More Rolling Stones tickets on sale Thursday at noon

Limited number of extra tickets made available by moving the stage

Heartbroken Rolling Stones fans have been offered a lifeline, with extra tickets for the band’s previously sold out UAE debut to go on sale on Thursday February 6 at noon.

A ‘limited’ number of tickets will be made available in all 13 pricing categories, promoters Flash have announced, including a fresh set of early bird general admission tickets at Dhs395, right up until the Dhs3,995 premium ‘Firepit Package’.

Tickets for the February 21 at du Arena, Yas Island, will be on sale from tickermaster.ae and Virgin Megastores from noon.

The extra tickets will add to the existing 30,000 capacity, and have been created by moving the stage back and adding to the grandstand areas, a move Flash CEO John Lickrish told Time Out was not motivated by profit.

‘We built the venue to the capacity we expected… and we don’t want people to miss out. So we’re changing the venue,’ he said.

‘We didn’t want people to be disappointed – we’re not going to be doing this for extra funds because the costs are so high.’

The news comes after initial hopes for a second show were dashed.

‘It was too much logistically – to get each of the band members to sign of on a 30,000 capacity show… it was just too challenging,’ added Mr Lickrish.

With the extra tickets gobbled up the concert is officially the biggest concert Abu Dhabi has hosted, beating the previous 30,000 gig by George Michael. Madonna’s du Arena gigs in 2012 attracted 23,000 a night.

‘This is the biggest single show we’ve done – and potentially will ever do,’ added Mr Lickrish. ‘I don’t think there’s anyone bigger [than the Stones].’
