Giant hotel delays opening

Grand Millennium Al Wahda to launch in November

If you’ve ever been stuck in traffic around Al Wahda Mall, you can’t fail to have spotted the huge structure springing up between the shopping centre and the bus station. This giant hulk is actually the Grand Millennium Al Wahda, the latest addition to the city’s growing collection of luxury hotels.

The amenity was originally scheduled to launch in September, but now its owners have put back the opening date to November. This will mean they’ll be in a race against time to be able to accommodate the onslaught of motor fans who will be touching down in the capital for the final race of the F1 season on November 14.

Whether it hits this deadline or not remains to be seen, but what is a fact is that the hotel will be a fillip to the city’s leisure scene. The hotel will be the largest in the city centre, with 850 rooms, including 585 hotel rooms and 265 residential apartments. It will also boast the biggest health club in the city, with a huge spa, swimming pool and gym. As far as dining venues go, it will be home to the American-style Porterhouse Blues Bar & Grill, the Asian eatery Toshi and Reflexions, a high-end champagne bar.
