Tiësto’s Abu Dhabi show cancelled

Fans demand to know what went wrong

Thousands of Tiësto fans were left heartbroken on Friday night, after the trance DJ’s massively hyped appearance in the capital was cancelled. The city’s hotels were packed to bursting point with eager young ravers over the weekend, but they were left sorely disappointed as the Abu Dhabi instalment of the Dutchman’s Kaleidoscope world tour was called off just hours before he was due on stage. A spokesman for Flash Entertainment, the organisers of the event, said the cancellation was down to ‘technical difficulties’ at the Adnec hall where the show had been scheduled to take place, but have not yet offered further elaboration.

Though you can’t help but feel sorry for folks who’d travelled as far as Pakistan to see the show, we’d say the biggest casualty here is Abu Dhabi itself. With a massive season of live music just around the corner, it’s a blow to the city’s credibility as a world-beating live music venue to have the plug pulled on such a broadly marketed event at the very last moment. Fans are being told to contact their point of purchase to get a refund for their tickets, or await rescheduling information.
