Prince gig hopes dashed for non F1 ticket holders

Organisers confirm recently announced shows will be exclusive to race-goers

Huge excitement gripped Abu Dhabi earlier this week as the entertainment line-up for this year’s Yasalam festivities were finally announced, with the most joyful shrieks reserved for the news that funkadelic mega-star Prince is coming to town. The pocket-sized singer’s first appearance in the Middle East promises to be the biggest live music event ever held in the capital, as he takes to the stage at Yas Arena following the second Abu Dhabi F1 Grand Prix on November 14. However, unless you’re willing to shell out for a ticket for the race (prices currently stand at Dhs1800 for a two-day ticket, Dhs2000 for a full weekend pass), we’re afraid to say you won’t be going to any of the big Yas Arena concerts.

Aiming to clarify widespread confusion among fans following the announcement, event organisers Flash Entertainment issued a statement today, saying: ‘The events on Yas Island were created with Formula 1 fans in mind; with concerts and parties designed for them to join in the celebration of the world-famous event…The after-race concerts are exclusive to F1™ ticket holders.’ However, they went on to remind the city’s music fans of the exciting programme of free events happening on the Corniche during the coming months, where a less formidable line-up of artists including Chipmunk, Kelis and Sophie Ellis Bextor can be enjoyed by all without spending a single dirham.
